![]() ![]() During his journey, he is entangled in many plots by the nefarious Team Rocket, effectively foiling them each time. Professor Oak gives him a Pokédex, and sends him on a long journey across Kanto to record all of the pokémon, crossing paths with Blue and Green along the way. In the first arc, Red suffers his first overwhelming defeat when he fails to capture the mysterious Mew, leading him to Professor Oak for advice on becoming a better Pokémon trainer. Early on, he catches a Pikachu (later named “Pika”) who becomes his main Pokémon in later arcs. He is rivals with Professor Oak's grandson, Blue. He starts his Pokémon journey with a Bulbasaur he receives from Professor Oak, which eventually evolves into Ivysaur and later Venusaur. He is very cocky, believing himself to be superior to his peers and claiming to not need any help at the beginning of his journey, though he later learns his lesson. Red ( レッド, Reddo) is a Trainer who starts off in Pallet Town as an aspiring trainer with a Poliwhirl which later evolves into Poliwrath.
